Fort Gibson Chamber Notes: Car show set to expand

By Sue Godwin

As we continue to highlight chairmen of some of our chamber committees, I would like to focus on our Car Show this week. Cliff Garrett has done an outstanding job of chairing this committee for several years and will continue this year along with co-chair Haley Norman. Cliff and Haley have already had one committee meeting, and things are really hopping.

Exciting things are happening and several things will be different from our past shows. Trucks and motorcycles have always been included in the car show, and this year a Jeep category will be added. This has been requested for several years and now it will happen. The last two years we have had a kids’ car show and once again kids will have the opportunity to enter their cars.

Cliff and Haley are leading the charge in these changes, and Haley and her husband are going to take the lead on another addition to the show, which will be tractors. With the new additions, space is becoming an issue and we will be expanding the show to include additional streets and areas for our tractors. Vendors will be welcome, and with all the entries and vendors and activities our downtown area will be alive with people shopping, dining and enjoying the family activities.

Cliff is encouraging our chamber members to come and be involved in our Car, Motorcycle, Jeep, and Tractor show, along with our kids show. As Cliff says, we can use all the help we can get, and this year we will need more than ever. The event will take place June 10, and the burnout will be the night before on June 9.

Cliff and Haley have scheduled two more committee meetings for Tuesday, Feb. 28 and March 7. Both are at 6 p.m. at the chamber office. If you would like to help plan and organize this event, we would love to have you join us.

Remember that each Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. your chamber meets for a dutch treat coffee at the Wise Owl Coffee Roasters. Also, for the month of March we will meet each at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Simple Simons for a dutch treat lunch. Hope to see you there.
